You missed my point. If max HP was the ulimate goal, we'd be driving around in cars that sound like F1 cars. There are other factors that go into the design of the car, and some will cause comprimises with the total power output: noise level, drivability, manufacturability, reliability, cost of R&D, cost of manufacturing, etc.

Guys keep in mind that honda does wants its cars to perform to compete in the import market of sports cars, but you also have to keep in mind that this is done by keeping noise down, making the car relaiable, streetable, and most of all keeping it all withing a budget, other wise they will for sure be able to drain more hp out of their engines! IMHO

I took the top of mine off when I installed my K&N drop in. Left it off for 48hrs and could actually tell I lost power. The car sounded almost like I had a fart pipe on it and didn't giddy up on the on-ramps like before. Needless to say, I put it back on and it won't be coming off again.

Here's a pic I took when the car was new:

I've yet to pull the cover off and drive.

Luder your signature is entirely to big.

Guys please remember that testing on a dyno with the hood up and a fan blowing cold air into the engine bay, is going to produce different results then with the hood down on a road. If you have hot air being trapped in the engine bay (unless your hood is vented), that intake is just consuming hot air, which will produce a drop in performance.

well rev2red, if you like the sound, but don't want the loss in performance (you actually have a small increase), Cold Air Intake is for you. Many owners have gone this route. I relatively cheap modification. i didn't see anyone mention that so I thought I would throw that in...

Good lord malachi, you couldn't be more wrong. Honda "tuned" the airbox with SOUND as their priority, not performance. That was secondary, otherwise, they would have sold the car with an AEM style intake. The baffles are there to control the sound which is why the intake is louder when they are removed. The dyno is NOT going to accurately measure the benefit of removing the cover and/or the baffles because intakes by nature, need AIR to be moving through them to gauge whether or not they are providing additional or decreased performance. Take the air box cover off and you'll get heat soak from a roll but as soon as the car reaches 60mph, the benefit of the cover being removed is clearly evident. Unless you have a fan blowing 60mph into the face of your S2000 on a dyno, any information regarding the removal of the baffles or cover needs to taken with a very large grain of salt. I tested my car with the air box cover off, the baffles removed...yada...yada...yada...probably nobody in here tinkers with intakes more than I. The OEM intake without the cover is a "hot air" intake from a stop or down low because the hot air of the engine bay has nowhere to go but remain trapped under the hood, getting sucked up by that huge filter with no heat soak protection. However, at high speeds, my accelerometer testing and friend's Tazzo BOTH showed increased performance with the lid off but again, it probably won't show up in a charted time over distance run because with the cover off, you'll lose performance down low but help to negate the drop with a gain up top. As a result of this "cancellation condition," I found that in the end, removing the cover created a "robbing Peter to pay Paul" mod which explains why some folks have shown 1/4-mile times to be about the same. You're not going to see any benefit taking the cover off until you get MOVING. With that being said, it probably should stay on because most folks spend more time from 0-80 than they do from 70-110 mph.
