Tools in the trunk
My wife used to criticize me for carrying around tools like you mention in previous cars, but I carried them around for somewhat different reasons. My kid would use my tools, and I could never find them when I wanted them. I started to "misplace" some of his stuff, and that helped alleviate that problem and didn't have to carry them around with me anymore.
Ralper; How do you carry all those tools around without them making a lot of noise when you make turns? If you are like me, you take friends for rides, bragging about how responsive the handling is. That noise would detract from that experience (and my ability to brag).

I agree with most everthing else, but what is the string for?

Joking aside, I actually carry shoelaces, and not just any old string. They came in handy as temporary exhaust hangers on a car I used to own many moons ago, and as such, I have always carried a set.

Well for those whom have any interest, i recently picked up a s2k and went to Sears and got their little $12.99 (on sale)40 piece road kit that comes nicely bundled in a plastic box. I also picked up the digital tire gauge and managed to fit this into the existing foam template located under the floor piece within the trunk. All you have to do to make the kit fit is cut off some of the foam with a carpenters knife upon the existing square cutout and it fits right in. It actually works out well aesthetically.. The air gauge will also fit on top of the jackstand cutout. I tried posting a pic but couldnt do so due to forum rules i guess. If anyones interested, ill email a pic.
I've put all the tools the car came with and put them all in a plastic bag. This now resides in the spare tire well, along with jumper cables and a can of tire goop. I also keep a small first aid kit and some winter "emergency" wear. I stuffed a pair of rubber gloves and my wheel lock key inside the winter wear. I always carry a Leatherman and a small powerful flashlight on my belt.
However, when I travel the highway on vacation, I take my Helm manual, extra oil, air pump & guage and enough tools to do most roadside repairs. I also take a 40 channel CB radio in case my cellphone is out of range. I have a plastic tool box for these.
