Top-Down gets attention... but is it always good?
Well I was driving around town yesterday with the top-down. It was drizzling/misting very lightly, but coming from the Jeep community, it was no where near enough to make me even think about putting the top up since it was pretty much mist. I love the open air way too much and wipers weren't even being used so I hardly considered it "rain".
Anyways, as I was driving I got the usual looks and points along with all the fan-boys driving civics and integras giving me thumbs up and the like. But, as I was turning onto a street some douche in a modded VR6 Jetta comes haulin' by with his GF and shouts, "PUT THE TOP UP N***A IT'S RAININ'!" Now, mind you this guy is probably the whitest dude I've seen in the whitest town I've ever been in. He has a backwards fitted cap and is playing rap music with a sticker that says "Thug" on his back window. I really dislike kids like this and while it's their choice to dress/act/whatever that way, if you're gonna drive by me shouting like you're hard... at least be decent enough to stick around for the retort. I proceed to instantly be a little ticked and I mash the gas, catch up to him (his gf's face was priceless when she realized her bf's little Jetta wasn't going anywhere) and I ask him where the film set for Malibu's Most Wanted II is at because I'd like to meet the cast. He starts talking smack, I flip him the bird, blow a kiss to his gf, tell him he's not gonna do a damn thing, and continue on my way.
That story/vent aside, does it seem like more people will tend to try and cut you off, race you, and overall just disrespect you more while driving when you have your top down? It seems like as soon as I lower the top everyone now has something to prove to their buddy or girlfriend and starts riding my ass or driving like a moron around me.
I know it can't just be me that gets this...

kids will be kids dude, if their jetta had a sunroof option or a topless version, theres would be too, i see plenty of S and miata owners driving top down in pouring rain including myself, yeah you get the looks, and the points, but don't take it so serious, someone will always have something to say. yes top down as much as possible is always good.
I had the same thing happen to me. A kid in a mid-90's turbo'ed civic dodging traffic managed to make it up to me at a red light a few nights ago. It was the same situation... backward hat yada yada. He started in with your typical punk bantering. I told him told him to kiss my resale value.
It made him pause for a few moments...
