Top-Down gets attention... but is it always good?
Everyone handles things in their own way, and that's perfectly fine (to a certain degree). Try to be the "bigger man" if at all possible, but I understand how emotions can sometimes drive you. I'm going to be buying a yellow s2k in a few days, and can only imagine all the funny looks and smart ass comments/etc. I'll be getting, but I'm quite past getting riled up about things like that. I drive a prelude now with rusting rear quarter panels, so it's going to be quite the change..
It's been a little while since I've driven a "nice" car. Like others said, should I get funny comments/etc. I will simply laugh and move on. It's just not worth it.
I'm sure I will have quite a few ricers try to race me on frequent occasions, which I think will be hilarious. The reality is, the s2k isn't "fast," so what's the point (they know it isn't fast either). It's kind of like picking on the retarded kid in school, it's pointless and dumb.

Being a reliable roadster is the allure for me.

What's funny is many on this forum think the S is a fast car. It's not.

Like you said, the appeal is a great handling and well balanced roadster. At least that's the appeal to me.I'm past my drag racing days, and this car is most certainly not built for that.
Fast is relative... compared to performance cars in its price range... its not anything special (though not really slow either), However, if you compare it to the majority of cars on the road right now... its pretty damn quick. If all you cared about was a reliable good handling roadster, the Miata fits that bill better, just as/more reliable, cheaper to maintain, handles very well, more fuel efficient, runs on regular, still a nice roadster.
but an S2000 is significantly faster, slow when compared to other "fast" cars but pretty quick when compared to the avg car driving down the road.

There's been at least one person to hit a 13.8 in a s2k. For a car that isn't designed to go fast "in a straight line" I think that's a perfectly acceptable number to be way beyond average. Is it a cobra? No... but good luck having them keep up in the turn.
As said fast is relative. In terms of acceleration I'd call the car 'quick'. It's most definitely the most efficient car in it's price range, and I would argue the most balanced. Is there a RWD roadster in the 30k range that outperforms it? Hell, the touted evo/sti as being the best "bang for buck" performance are only half a second faster in the quarter, but we'll still slowly nibble on them in the corners.
I think it's completely undeniable that given what you pay, this car is a monster.
I'm not even gonna dip into aesthetics since it's not applicable to this conversation, but it is the icing on the cake

This discussion on whether the S is fast is all relative. The S was introduced September 1999 - almost 11 years ago. Then the car was fast in comparison to its competitors. Now, 11 years later, the car has average acceleration compared to quick new cars.
Let's keep things in perspective.
