Default Top replaced, what to look for?

Tonight I'm going to look at a 2001 S2000 that had the top replaced with a Robbins w glass rear window. The top was replaced at a local upholstery shop. I'd like to know if there are any specific things I should look for in light of this.

I checked this page:

https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/434...nt-info-costs/

to get a general overall feel of how it should look.

I know the first thing I need to check is whether it's a vinyl or canvas top. From what I understand, canvas is the superior material.

But are there any specific areas I should look at to confirm that it was installed correctly?

Thanks in advance!

there is only 1 honest reason people use a robbins top over oem... price. dont be fooled by the comments of superior quality and half the price.

Well of course the fact that it cheaper makes it more popular and more commonly used than OEM. As is the case with many OEM parts.

Unfortunately this does not help me determine if the top was installed correctly or what to look for

As long as you don't see any early wears or if it looks put on wrong, I think you should be fine, just don't be like me and drive off the lot with a tear in the top lol

Vinyl tends to be a bit more hardy and easier to maintain - which is why it is the OEM material.

What I’ve gleaned from threads on here about replacement tops (going to do mine next summer); canvas looks nicer when new, but is harder to keep clean than vinyl.

As far as aftermarket vs. OEM; there are plenty of people here that have been pleased with their aftermarket tops (ez-on, Robbins, etc.) and a number of examples of the OEM wearing out prematurely. That said, my ’00 is still on its factory top. When I replace it, it will be aftermarket (vinyl). I can’t justify the price difference between that and OEM.
