Default Top replacement under warranty

Guys,

I had owned the car for about one year. There are two spots patched on top of the top (where the rods sit under). It was done by the previous owner.

I think it had a slight tear or leak so the previous owner did an emergency patch.

How easy is it to get honda to replace the top?

I had previously owned a 350z roadster and it was pretty easy to ask for a replacement.

Depends on the Honda dealer really. There's a post on the s2000 reference library about this and I guess you could print it out and toss it at the stealerships' face if they don't provide you any service, but the pic is a little small so I would try and request a bigger one for reading purposes.

i got rejected under the argument that the top is a "wear item" and not covered under warranty in any way

Should depend on the situation. If the frame pieces are damaging the top it isn't a wear issue but there's a TSB for it.

take it to your dealer, maybe spirit honda as suggested, tell them about the tsb linked on the top, and then they're supposed to check for burrs on the frame. if they find it and are under warranty, they should reaplace it free of charge. if not under warranty, maybe they will consider it good will, if you ask nicely.

The dealer covered 50% of the cost on my car but they jacked the price up on the top more then msrp so it wasnt really 50%.

Two years ago, a hole was emerging above the passenger seat at the typical wear spot that everyone is having problems with. I brought the car into the dealership (spirit honda; btw i did not even buy my car there) and they just ordered the parts and had it replaced the next week. Just 4 months ago, the same problem happened again and they replaced my top a second time. they gave me no hassles except be prepared to leave the car there for 2-3 days. Goodluck and let us know how it goes
