To get the kind of top speeds many in here claim, you would need well over 300 HP, and a car that was not as aerodynamic as a brick.
It was tried at Bonneville with a fairly heavily modified S2000 and I think they hit around 156 MPH.
First off, I'm hoping all those who have actually attempted top speed tests have done so on a closed course track? Maybe it's self-evident, but doing that kind of speed on any public road is simply asking for sudden death/license revocation, whichever comes first.
And as others have accurately stated, if you're looking at your digital speedometer in the car and saying you "reached 150," you're completely off. The speedometer error increases as your speed increases, so you may have been going 135 if the speedo said 150, possibly less. The only way to know exactly how fast you were going is to have a GPS unit measuring your speed. Any other means of speed measurement is bogus.

Cool day for Florida with no humidity...163 thru the sugar fields 80W. Couldn't get the rpm's as car was somewhat edgy, but they were high at that speed and didn't want to look away for more than I had too. Wouldn't do it again. Scarey, man, scarey.

O and I'm SC.
