Top Speed...

One car mag took a specially prepped car with a lot of internal engine work to the Salt Flats and only managed 156 MPH.

Actuallly the car was prepared by westech, it was a stock S2000 with an AEM ECU, Comptech header and a Port&Polished head, no other mods. It did 154 MPH average speed ( a 3mile run down and 3mile run back) at Bonneville. Also it weighed in @3200 lbs, they had to add weight to the car.
I downloaded a home video from Kazaa demonstrating the top speed of the S2000. The guy hit 281kmph (175.6 mph), that was more than redlining on 6th gear.
The car was stock and pre-04.
If anyone wants the clip, it is only about 4 megs, but shows the dash and road very clearly. Alternatviely just search 'S2000' on Kazaa and you will find it, it's called "S2000 top speed". Looked like some scarey stuff.
He went by a truck at about 270kmph and you could only just see it flash past.

as far as i know, it can be a little off from the start, some more so than others. if you change out tires or gearing, then it starts getting even more so. it's what makes the yellow box useful so you can adjust your error accurately.
djohnston,
Nothing wrong with wringing out your car to its limit on the public Autobahn, if conditions are right of course.
I was all by myself on a clear dry day heading to a trackday when I saw the 260. When I arrived, one fellow with a Z06 Vette told me he had hit 300 on the same road!
Tyres tend to "grow" at high speeds, so the speedo error increases as well. Error was probably well over 10%. I do remember hitting around 8300rpm when the dash showed 260.
With the top down, I can't even hit the rev limiter in 5th.
