I hear what you are saying about lopping off 1000rpm, but isn't there something different?

I can't imagine any car made redlining in top gear at only 151mph......hell, the car actually has the power to get to 151mph so it came from the factory "top speed limited due to gearing"??

Has anyone run their S2000 on the dyno in 6th just to see what the top speed would be?
Running the car on the dyno to see how "fast" it will go is pointless. Let's go back to the "real" world once more. In the real world, we have aerodynamic drag. On a straight and level road, with no wind, the average S2000 has enough power to propel itself to about 150 mph. This has been quite evident as witnessed by many AP1 cars that are geared for around 165 mph. The car simply doesn't have the power to go any faster than about 150. Those who have, have been going downhill or have the wind at their backs or a bit of both.
Therefore, in choosing the transmission and FD gearing, Honda has come up with almost the ideal combination to maximize top speed and acceleration. They learned from the AP1 when they chose the engine, tranny and rear end for the AP2.

the figures below seems a little off. you're telling me it requires a shift to 3rd to get past 60mph. what rpms are those speeds shifting at?

also, i remember driving an AP1 and if i can remember 3rd top out at 91mph and 4th at 118mph, is it the same for the AP2?

Tire size
(ie. 255/40/17):
1st gear: Total gearing in first gear:
Maximum speed in first gear: 15.4914318
36.9 mph
2nd gear: Total gearing in second gear:
Maximum speed in second gear: 10.111707
56.5 mph
3rd gear: Total gearing in third gear:
Maximum speed in third gear: 7.3229526
78 mph
4th gear: Total gearing in fourth gear:
Maximum speed in fourth gear: 5.7406806
99.5 mph
5th gear: Total gearing in fifth gear:
Maximum speed in fifth gear: 4.6627578
122.5 mph
6th gear: Total gearing in sixth gear:
Maximum speed in sixth gear: 3.782619
151 mph
7th gear: Total gearing in seventh gear:
Maximum speed in seventh gear:
Reverse gear:
(will not be graphed) Total gearing in reverse gear:
Maximum speed in reverse gear: 13.84488

all i wanted to know was somthing like this in the AP2 without having to wait till i reach 600 miles.

celica gts:
3rd gear@8400rpms=89mph
4th gear@8400rpms=112mph
5th gear@8400rpms=140mph

is300:
3rd gear@6300rpms=90mph
4th gear@6300rpms=125mph
5th gear@6300rpms=147mph

I have a shift light set at 7750rpm in my AP2. I actually ran to an indicated 151mph in 6th gear and my shift light had been on for several seconds as it climbed that last few mph.

It was pretty cool with the bright red shift light on constantly, the engine screaming, 150+mph.....

Yeah, I'm a riceboy.

Anyway, the fuel cutoff is 8200rpm, so you can actually get closer to 155mph before the party is over.

Yes, the AP2 is gear limited in top speed, which is perfect in my book. Perfectly matched gear ratios to the engine power.

It is funny about breaking in cars.... I had my Evo at the dragstrip at 500 miles and ran a 13.4 and never had a mechanical problem with my car.....

I am a believer in running things hard from the beginning......

and... I never knew the AP2's revved out at 150mph.... learn something every day.

so what's the top speed in each gear? at least tell me 3rd and 4th so i don't screw the next time d/c, r/m a downshift.

you know what's surspring about the car it actually has torque. i thought i was going to miss the torque in the IS but this car feels about the same off the line from a stop. the first day i mistook 3rd for 1st a couple of times and the car still has enough torque to get up to speed from 0 to 40mph in 3rd gear. i never could do that in the celica.

carlos: you blew my cover, thanks! j/k

doing great! sold the IS last month and picked up an S2K the following day. i thought i wouldn't miss a high revving motor but i was wrong. the IS was fun to drive in the twisties but it was a little boring to cruise in. you still have the celica? man, you get around the boards!

Can you not use the gear calculator and see for yourself?
