Default Top speed for non-modified s2k?

What up everyone-

Just wondering, what is the actual top speed of the '00-'03 s2000? I have had mine to around 120. What is the fastest you have taken your car? Do the numbers vary from hardtop to soft? (Drag?)

thanks

John

Ive taken mine 140 with the top down, 147 with the (soft)top up...but that was a really cold night (40 degress) and it might have been a slight uphill

Standardized magazine tests have shown a 150mph top speed with the soft top, with the top up. Since it's aerodynamically limited (as opposed to a speed limiter or being gear limited) that's going to be very sensitive to environmental conditions such as wind and slope. Real world figures could be +/- 10mph from conditions, plus if the speedo is off by 1-2% then that will further influence in-car readings.

My best speed in a 2000 model car is 267kmh (166mph), top up.

And I still got passed by a Porker, friggin Autobahn.....

i've hit 163mph. i think i had a slight tailwind that day. the top speed is most certainly over 150mph. i'd say it's drag limited in the 160mph area, depending on wind and hill grade.

Keep in mind that unless those top speeds are from a GPS or similar they are probably off. The S2000 speedo reads high, and the higher you go, the greater the inaccuracy.

unfortunately i think too few people understand the difference between actual vs indicated speeds.

that aside, i think that all cars will read more inaccurate (higher) than their actual speed as their speed increases. at least from what i've read on other forums. so even though the S2k is off (reads higher) so would a mustang, or camaro, etc.

Yeah, I got up to 120ish on the interstate, but had to slow down as I was coming up on a blind turn, and no radar detector. I think it is probably closer to 150, because according to Car and Driver, the '04 Z06 (w/ 400 ponies) was drag limited to 186. I realize that every mile per hour up at that speed requires more and more hp, but that car has pretty much double the hp as the S2000 and is not a drop top.

well unfortunately they have never tested an S2000.

and honestly, horsepower doesn't mean as much at those speeds as drag coefficient does.

but i've done 163. i've seen others post 160's. and the guy on the autobahn said 166.

even a 10mph tailwind can change that top speed. at those speeds so much is a factor, so really, there is no right or wrong answer.
