anyways, here's the story. i have a picture of the speedo on my old turbo prelude maxing at around 145mph and people have always thought that was crazy and the idea of the S2000 being able to get over 150 easy was too inviting so i just had to get my camera out when i saw an open stretch of road in front of me. i took a picture when i hit 150-something and threw the camera down but the speedo kept going up so i picked it up and took a pic at 159 but i started to chicken out so i put both hands on the wheel and just held on a tight as i could. i dont' know how long it was before it hit 160 and 161 but it felt like forever! man... my hands were numb after that!
me and some other guys were on our way to the buttonwillow track day and i just blew by the exit. i was on the 5 heading north and the road looked completely flat to me.
my car is lowered with neuspeed springs (which i think helped a little and kept my car more planted so it doesn't feel as scary), HKS exhaust and JR filter so i don't know if any of those things increased my top speed.
i remember a video of someone doing 281km (converted to 174.6mph) but i'm not sure if that's possible! unless it was downhill. he started at 70kph and hit 281kph in 1:15, and i think it took me longer than that to go from 159-160.
i'll try to scan the pic when i get the pictures developed.

I drove my non modded S2000 in 263km/h, but I had 1800rpm left to redline but the car didn seem to go any faster...

That's some serious speedo error for you. S2000 in 6th gear at 7200rpm is doing 213kph no matter what the speedo is showing. Something does not seem right as that's probably the biggest speedo-error I've seen - 50kph off .... are you sure your revs were not any higher (much higher) or that the speedo was not showing something lower?
ps. 7200rpm in 6th means that you you 'only' reved to 8,600rpm in 5th and then shifted to 6th - at which stage you shut it down. The numbers do not add up as S2000 reaches these speeds in each gear at redline (9,000rpm):
1st - 69km/h
2nd -105km/h
3rd - 144km/h
4th - 186km/h
5th - 223km/h
6th - 266km/h

The only fact I got is that the speedo was showing 263km/h...BUT I might have wrong Rpm measure...It was not the time to check the rpm...but I did recall that I did notice that I had some rpm left....
But skip the RPM =) the top speed...on a looooong straight was 263km/h
ps. the redline starts at 9k but int aint cutting untill 9,2k...

Honda rep told me 172 was top speed on the S2000!!!....also told me that Honda had done extensive testing on aftermarket exhaust sytems and that they actually lose about 10-15 horses! His words not mine mind you.......I tried to get some dyno charts in reference to this from one manufacturer but to date no reply!!?? Anyone got any data to support the increase in HP for Cat Backs?
Wow, you guys are crazy. Like epfinnig, I've only done redline to 4th, shift to 5th, let up at 125MPH. That's plenty fast for me. I've had my BMW330i up to 137MPH, but that was way out in the middle of nowhere on the FLA Turnpike. I'm too worried about all the cops and state troopers around W. Palm Beach.
Does it get "loose" at those speeds? The BMW was rock solid, I could easily drive with one hand. On the other end, my '70 GTO scared the hell out of me at 130MPH, it was all over the place.

I've seen 161 on the spedo twice (indicated), I really don't believe the car will do 162. My car is 1mph off @ 70 mph (radar tracked), and I'm sure there is error in the 161 number, but not as much as people think. As stated before, it takes a very long time to get to this speed, so the car needs to be in perfect running order, good tires, etc, and you're going to need a LOT of road.
For those of you who want to try this I suggest you stop at 150, it's easy to get there, it doesn't take FOREVER, and the feeling is the same.

It's easy to forget that the energy the brakes have to dissipate goes up as the square of the car's speed. So braking from 160 mph to a semi-legal 80 mph, is NOT like a stop from 80 to 0. It's more equivalent to a stop from 138(!!!) to 0.
Every owner who ever posted on the SVX board about "i'm going to try a top speed run tonight", came back and posted the next day "My brake rotors are now tacos!". 3600 lb car mind you.
cheers
