If airbags deploy 98% of the time it's totaled.

Since the other driver is at fault their insurance should be kicking in. If I was you, I'd want them to total it so I could look for a non-accident car.

I'm glad you're alright. But even if they fix your S up perfect, it will NEVER drive the same.

Ask them what the buy back is. Some people have had success selling off parts and turning a small profit. That is if you have time to waste and the desire to deal with low ballers.

yes--that 8.9% sales tax is a normal covered expense of the cost of a totaled car paid by the insurance company.

reason I mention that you have to ask for it is that the other guy's insurance typically won't offer it to you without you asking---they have no loyalty to you and want to close the claim as cheaply as possible--and many folks don't think about til later when they buy the replacement car and then realize if cost big $$ for the taxes.

your own insurance company probably would offer it to you if they were paying the claim as they want to keep you a happy customer but the "other insured's" company typically won't

Sucks...especially to hear it was totaled, but it might be for the best. Airbags depoying and being hit at that spot probably means some decent frame damage. Make sure your insurance company is working to get everything they can out of the faultbearers insurance company.

Good luck!

Just came across this and looks like I never updated the thread with the final outcome. Car was totaled. I received something like $13,500 for it from the insurance company. I then bought the car back from insurance for $2500 and sold on Craigslist the next day for $5,000.

So in the end it worked out pretty well, although in hindsight I wish I would have kept the totaled car and fixed it up for a track car or something. I really miss having an s2000.
