Toughest decision of my life
I was just wondering if anyone can help me out. I am looking at both the S2000 and the Acura TSX. They are both great cars. I drove the S2000 twice and I absolutely love it. The acura is nice however we all know its no s2k. I am going to be getting one or the other tomorrow and I can not make up my mind. I am getting the s2k for a great price but the TSX is still 6k less after I inculde the snow tires I have to get for the s2k. What I want to know is is it worth the sacrifice of seating and carrying capacity and stereo and all the other amenities with the TSX to get the s2k. I love the s2k and am definatley an enthusiast driver and no doubt will I enjoy every second of it but my parents just dont think its practical enough. I have no garage to keep it in and am worried about the effects that may have on the top and also the fact that it may be a target for vandalism. I ask all of you because I have only really test driven the s2k and I havent had to live with it as a only daily driver. Any input would be much appreciated because I dont think I am gonna get much sleep tonight. If I got the TSX I would have to get a CBRF600 to make up for the lack of adrenalin that I lose.

With nowhere to store it, and as an only car in a snowy area, I would not get it.
That's just me, I waited 5 years to get the car because I felt I needed a place to store the car and something else to drive in the winter.
Best advice I can think of for a 22 yr old. is to NOT buy a new car, but save as much money as you can. If you are set on a new car, check out the V6 Accord coupe with the 6-speed.

Heres what you do...
Number one, the TSX is a great car packed with so many features! I persoannly love it, and it was named one of Car n Drivers 10 best cars of the year (along with the S2K).
I actually am thinking about getting a TSX also (but keeping the S2K) as my "piece of sh@t" car wont last too much longer. So the TSX will replace my daily-driver sentra. Ok, my opnion...
1-If you dont have a garage, dont buy a S2K. or at the very Least have a good car cover for it. You will ruin the car"s paint etc etc with the snow/salt we get here in new-england.
2-If you dont have a "daily-driver" car, or a "winter beater" car, dont get a S2K! the S2K is really a clean-roads/nice weather only car. Why would you risk driving it in the winter? Especially with all the salt on the roads. And besides that the S2K wont go anywhere in the snow being its a rear-wheel drive. I would never do that to mine. Its a very dangerous car to drive in slippery weather and i would never risk it. Im very glad i have a POS-car i can drive and keep the S2K in the garage looking good and staying in good shape
The car is very unpredictable in the rain, and you must use caution. i cant imagine driving her in sleet/feezing rain or snow. Thats just nuts! This car is prescious and you should take care of her as such.
3-If i didnt have a garage, and i could only afford one car and wanted one with decent performance, looks and affordibility i would definately get a TSX.
I have the broucure on it and i think it would make a great daily-driver. After all, its a Honda so reliability isnt going to be an issue. And the stereo is 8 speakers and 360-watts!
Good luck with your descision ! Maybe save up and some day get a S2K as your second car? Thats what i did. The wait was killing me but after 2 years of looking and saving up $$$ i can finally afford a S2K along with a garage and another car.
I miss driving her already..

hey, i'm 22... i say do it while your young. there's not other time in your life where your friends won't EXPECT you to be driving a car like s2000... unless you have spoiled snotty friends
Then again, the TSX isn't a 22 yr old's car either... but yea, s2000 isn't practical for winter times.

ya, i suggest getting a car suitable for winter. i had to drive the s2k in a snowfall, and i swear to god i thought i was going to die. in a gas station parking lot, with light throttle, i did a 270!!
unless a winter beater is in your future, get the TSX.
thank god i have a winter beater
you can find a decent winter car for $500 bucks. i bought my '92 protege for $1k. it was very well maintained before i bought it, and has made several 300 mile plus trips. good luck!

If this is your only car I would reccomend the TSX. I have both a S2k and 03 Accord V6 coupe, and although I would rather drive the S2K some situations require a larger more practical vehicle. If your looking at money check out an Accord V6 6MT, they have a close ratio transmission like the S2K and tons of toqure and hp on demand. I almost bought one when they first came out, but ended up with an AT instead. The TSX and Accord EX are also about the same when it comes to luxury items plus the Accord is cheeper with the V6, but good luck finding a 6MT, they are limited production like the S2K.
you need to set your priorities straight. for me its:
-family
-school
-girlfriend
-car
if you satisfy everything else, then why not? im 20 and dont have to pay for school(scholarship), so whatever i make from my part time job goes to to my girl, car, etc.
you only live once, enjoy it now. with talk about war and nuclear disasters, we might not have that much time left. j/k

The S can be very manageable as a daily driver. But of course that depends on the length of your daily commute to school or work as well as how much storage space or seating you need.
Also, consider where you will be parking your car. If you're usually parking in a bad part of town, somewhere that's crowded, or where there's little or no supervision, maybe the S2000 isn't right for you.
As far as driving in snow, consider how much snow you generally get in your area as well as the roads you have to travel on everyday. If the roads you commonly travel have a lot of elevation changes or curves, this may be difficult to navigate in snow- snow tires or not.
But not getting an S2000 is not the end of the world. And if deciding whether to get a TSX or an S2000 is the toughest decision of your life, you've been pretty fortunate. Even if you don't get an S2000, you can still get one 4-5 years from now, or by then you'll want something different.
Good luck.

If you are considering storing the car outside with only a cover on it when it snows...depending on how much snow you get there it may cause some problems.
The main problem I'm thinking of is the weight of the snow on the roof of the car. I don't think the material OR the frame can hold much (or any) weight.
Being a young driver you will also have to consider insurance costs.
I agree with the other post about getting your priorities right, and about saving etc.
Having said that you are only yound once, and it is a good time to get a sports car before you have to buy a "family car".

ur gonna hate having to keep the car outside if u get the s2000, i had it in the freezing temps and snow of minneapolis for two weeks before driving it down to my place in san francisco. I hated thinking about my baby sitting outside and collecting snow and ice. Wait to get it until you have a place to store it my friend. Or if you dont mind the possible/occasional vandal and it being covered in snow during the winter.
