I agree, but I believe the original question was if Honda was dumb for leaving it off of the 2000 S2000. Answer, no, they did it right.

Anyone else find it ironic that nobody complains about ABS, which is really just traction control in reverse?

Malachi, the extra weight would be immaterial, prob. just a little electronic box and a switch. As to more things to break, I think fewer owners would have broken their cars crashing had traction control been used. I'd prob. disable it for most driving, but it would be nice to be able to switch on at times.

Don't flame me for this, but if you spin out, it's a driver's error. Learn how to drive the car and what its limits are. I don't think traction control is a good idea for the S2000. It's a fun car to drive, and handles really well on turns, if you spin out, then you are pushing the car way to hard. Take it to an autocross and make good use of the time on the track.

For what it is the S2000 is awesome. I just test drove a 2002 Blackblack S2000 and it was totally awesome, the ride was perfect, the car was quiter that I thought it would be. This car is not that hard edged like people are saying. It is a easy car to drive and the car is not hard riding. It rides better and feels better than any civic or RSX Type S!

But in the rain its going to need some active handlingtraction control that you can turn off like in the C5 (in the C5 you never have to turn it off because it is not intrusive at all and is probably the best ESP/traction contol in the business and will save you ass). Come on guys in a heavy rain storm are you going to be in trouble in a S2000.

I vote yes

Can you imagine the 0-60 times and 1/4 mile times if the engine cut throttle and bogged when tires spun?
I know this is NOT a drag car, but if you don't launch it your sub 6 sec 0-60 goes up to closer sub 10sec. There's a reason Honda made the car so it would rev high enough to go into VTEC sitting still, unlike it's other VTEC cars.
Personally, I'm glad as hell it doesn't have it. You want to add TCS? goto a driving school and let your brain becoime your traction control.
Even my dad's '94 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham barge had it, and it would literally shove the gas pedal back up at your foot if it felt a spin, talk about ticking you off!
Picture this.
Warm and dry day here in Fla and you go to pull out into traffic. you notice a truck coming up on you a little fast, there's a little bit of sand on the road and instead of pulling out and maybe spinning a little bit and throwing the sand off to get to asphalt, the damn gas pedal shoves back up at your foot, truck still coming down on you?
No thanks.
I'd rather be the judge as to whether I can ride the tire spin out.
I know there's a LOT better implementations of TCS out there, but that's the kind of decision I'd rather make for myself.

- if you don't like TC at all or for a given situation, that's what the extra little switch on the dash would be for. Turn it off if you don't like it!
- you probably haven't driven a C5 w/ TC and Active Handling, have you? It's come a LONG way since the '94 Caddy, and the implementation in the C5 just flat out rocks. IMO, Active Handling makes it more fun, esp. in comp. driving mode.

I agree, though, that TC should not be a substitute for good driving technique.

If you don't like it turn it off?
That would be fine IF IT WOULD STAY OFF UNTIL YOU TURN IT BACK ON!
But all the TCS systems I've seen turn back on next time you start the car.
Like BRandonB said-
No for me...I had it in my M3 and EVERY time I got into the car I turned it off. It became a natural reaction. I never had traction control on in that car.
But like I said PERSONALLY, I'm glad as hell my S doesn't have it.
That way I don't have to find a way to disable it.
The S also doesn't have the torque heavy V8 that a C5 has.
I'm sure honda would have loved to run all their 0-60 in 5.8 seconds ads with an asterisk after it and a footnote saying *after turning off traction control system, 10-12 seconds with it on.

No matter where you go, there is a bunch of whining.

Go to the S4 board on this subject, and they are sitting there trying to develope an electronic device to make the default position of the traction control to be off.

Also, how can traction control in F1 cars be even remotely compared to the systems being installed in production cars? Uh, reality check...over...
