Trade in my STi for an S2k?
It's been on my mind for a while now. Don't get me wrong I love the AWD, turbo, and handling of my STi but I go on deployment soon and after deployment I was planning on building a half track/ half weekend warrior. I know you guys will be a little biased naturally but would the S2k be the better track weapon? If I make the STi a track car I'd remove a lot of the interior and ruin the purpose of having 4 doors. I know it's obviously up to me but I was hoping to hear your guys opinion, biased or not. Also I know Ima sound like a noob but I'm mainly a Subaru guy, if an S2k motor goes out at 2XX,XXX, would it just need to be "refreshed"(Pistons, rods, ect.) If the block is still intact or would I need a whole other motor? For Subi's that go out, a simple rebuild and your good for another 100k, if the block is still intact. Noob question I know but I know very minimal about Hondas
I had a s2000 then went through a few cars including a STi and am now back in an s2000. The STi was very impressive on track but was almost to easy. I personally think the s2000 is more fun to drive when comparing stock v stock. If you want the fastest car i would think the STi with lots of money thrown at it would be quicker compared to a s2000 with the similar stats but for driving experience i would go for the s2000. Are you going to enter any form of race or is this just for your own personal benefit?
Thank you guys for helping out and with either car I'm going to track race for my personal gain. Every time I go I'm going to compete vs previous times, not others. Maybe way down the line but Not yet. I'm mainly looking at what car would be better overall. Power x handling x reliability x lap-times x fun. Like I've said I love my STi but every JDM classic has something I love about them. Ugh why can't I be a billionaire!
I've heard from other people that STi's are easier to drive, can you elaborate? Is it because the AWD traction and steering ratio? I even heard Takumi say it in initial D when he drove his dad's lmao
The S2000 makes more durable track car with lower maintenance and consumable cost. In stock form, on the same tyres, they're both about as fast around a track...with some tracks seeing the S2000 come out ahead and vice versa. Which should be obvious . The S2000 handles better...but the STi is easier to drive for most people. Its not light or RWD...and it doesn't require momentum because it has torque You can drive like an oaf and still be relatively quick.
The STi has an advantage in weight/power ratio. Its about 11LB/HP for the STi. (3300/300) and 11.7LB/HP (2800/240) for the S2000. Once both cars are rolling, however, it'd be almost a dead heat in acceleration.
The STi has better brakes from the factory, and obviously, your dollar goes further for HP.
BUT...the STi (especially if left stock) will likely explode about 800 times before the S2000 has a single issue. If you're disputing this statement...then consider the fact that I am right and you are wrong. STi engine durability is horrendous. You need to mod it for durability...which seems unforgivable for a performance car.
A good performance car should need NO track prep except consumables and maybe fluids.
You'll go thru tyres, brakes, engines, and fuel at a much lower rate in a S2000. For sure.
As far as making up for the S2000's shortcomings... the S2000's brake pads can be upgraded...or a brake system can be bought relatively cheaply. And if you're thirsting for power, you can reliably add power to the S2000 and easily surpass levels available to the STi.
The obvious 4dr vs 2 seater practicality arguments are being put aside for this. If you need space, you need space. The S2000 is small . The Sti is big.

If your really going to track a s2000, a sc set up would be my choice but the cost is pretty steep. N/A is really only good for learning how to drive on a track which is enough for most people.
But go stage two, run e85 with the fixings on your sti and boom you'll be faster than a s/c s2000 at a fraction of the cost. My friend had a 05 sti with bolt ons and e85 pushing 380whp on stock turbo with 480lb-ft at 3,500-4k rpm. Now that will get you around a track a hell of a lot faster than a s2000.
Just weigh the options. An s2000 is fun but not as fun as a 480 foot pounds pushing you back in your seat whipping it through corners being composed.
