Default Transmission noise, possible problem, need help

I have a quick question about noises coming from my transmission. When I am stopped, with the clutch engaged (pedal released), I hear a faint winning. Is this just the sound the clutches makes when its engaged. Or is there a problem with a pilot bearing. It's a very faint noise that is very difficult to pick up if the radio is on at all.

The reason I ask this is because on my last car (Honda Civic DX) this started to occur and it got louder so I took it to a transmission specialists and he had to replace the whole transmission because the bearing had messed everything up. My car is still under warranty and I want to get it taken care of before it's too late.

BTW, My car is a MY02 with 8700 miles. Thanks in advance.

my car makes the same noise. the reason we can hear it is because we don't have that much sound deadening material and we can hear almost everything.

With the pedal released, the input shaft of the tranny is turning with the engine, so the pilot bearing is not operating. Once you push in the clutch, the disk and input shaft will stop, and the pilot bearing will be operating(shaft stopped/engine turning). So, the problem is not the pilot bearing. I'd say change out the tranny fluid(Honda MTF) and go from there.

Hmmm, Okay, thanks for all the advice, I am a new owner and just wanted to make sure that is normal. The car is fairly new and still under warranty and I wanted to take care of any problems I might encounter ASAP. I understand many owners change their trans fluid and differential fluid pretty early due to the Honda MTF not being up to par. Should I do this? If so, what fluids should I use. Thanks again.

i changed out my diff. fluid at 2k miles with moibil 1 75w90.

changed out the tranny oil at 3k miles with honda mtf, shifting got noticably better but in cold weather it still sucks(but not as much as before). im hesitant to try to gm synchromesh. i know this product is known to really improve shifting action BUT im not sure of the long term effects since afterall, it is designed for GM getrag trannies. for now im happy with honda mtf and plan on changing both the tranny and diff. fluid once a year. having access to a lift makes these fluid changes at least 10x easier.

I would do the diff now. The fluid will likely be trashed.

Not to question your integrity billman, but why would my diff fluid be trashed so soon?
