Transmission Stuff
Ever since Day One I have had a vibration which kinda sounds like ringing in the gearshift lever at almost exactly 4000 rpm. It happens in every gear except 6th. I have 8000 miles on my 2001. I just had it in for 7500 service and the dealer service guy contacted his Honda "tech guy" on S2000 who felt it might be the transmission TSB problem. But since mine is a 2001 it (the TSB) does not apply. This does not sound to me like the issue that was addressed by that bulletin but then I am no Honda mechanic. I naively figured it was something loose and vibrating in the linkage but I am told there is nothing in the linkage to be loose.
The car was returned with advice to "see what happens, they think it might go away" which seems unlikely as it has been going on for over 7000 miles. I have not had crunching or jumping out of gear, just this "ringing". I drive very conservatively (I am extremely old); I have never smoked the tires or speed-shifted and I treat VTEC as a special treat, not a constant diet.
I would appreciate any ideas out there...

There have been many reports here of clutches that rang, but I can't remember anything about transmissions doing it. Are you sure it's not the clutch? There's a TSB on that as well, I believe.
I am not ruling out anything....this "ringing" is heard and felt through the gear lever and if you hold the knob tightly it is stopped. So by that and the service rep's comments I am thinking more toward a rev-specific gear "harmonic" since he says there are no pieces in the very short gear linkage that could be loose to vibrate.
I have been treated royally at Walnut Creek Honda so I am very confident they are not going to be unnecessarily difficult about this. They did my rear window replacement (scratched and folded by the selling dealer, not WC Honda) and have been great to work with .
