Trip Report
Well, I have had the "S" about a month now and love it. Thanks to this web site I have learned to baby it. I keep it spotless inside and out (obsessed like most of you). I had been looking forward to this Saturday night as the wife and I planned a long cruse. Out to Palm Springs for dinner and back that same night (about a 250 mile round trip). The trip there was great. Top down, stereo blasting (well as much as the stock stereo can blast), stars above, car running great as usual. Found a safe place to park(always nervous leaving the S). Diner was great. After dinner, top back down cruse the main drag a couple of times then head out of town. All of a sudden three miles into the desert a humongous sand storm surrounds us. Heavy wind, thick sand, no visibility and TOP DOWN. This lasts about three minutes. Seemed like three hours. Tried to pull over but could not see the shoulder. Finally, the car in front of me stopped in the road. I saw him just in time. Now I am able to apply the hand break and close the top against a brisk wind.
The wife and I were covered in sand but worse, the previously show room clean S has sand in every nook and cranny inside and Out!
It was a long sad drive home. We spent most of today detailing the car. It turned out much better than I expected. No paint damage. Interior cleaned up well. But still a lot of grit in the top mechanism. It works perfect but I will spend a lot of time with a detail brush in the next few days. I am still a little shaky over this episode and had to share. Thanks.
Doc.
