Is this true???
I finally went out and test drove an S2000 today. It was a gorgeous Berlina Black and i was very excited to experience the ride. Even before the test drive i knew i was going to buy an S around April, but i just wanted a little taste of whats to come.
Anyways as i was test driving i asked the salesman what the difference is between a 03' and the other years. He replied that this year was the 1st year that they used the VTEC engine in the S. Was the salesman was telling me the truth.
Also he quoted me at around 33,000 after all is said and done. He also said that they have been marking up S' 5,000 and that i was recieving a good deal. I know that i can get an 01' for 25,000, so another question would be should i spend the extra 10k and get a new one, or go ahead and buy the 01'? What is the difference between the two?

The first year they used the VTEC engine? bhahaha! Same engine, all years.
How many miles on the '01? I saved $15,000 Canadian over buying a new one, and it was well worth it since my '01 only had 14,000 miles on it.

i saw something about the 03 models having F1 shifting. I haven't looked into it and don't really know what the differnce is. 02 has rear glass... a big plus... two small door tweeters and there is a little difference in the tranny if i remember right
cyman, that salesperson was an idiot. We're all VTEC and if you look in the Library here there is a listing somewhere of the differences between 00/01 and 02/03. As mentioned, the only remarkable difference is the glass rear window. That's the beauty of the S, imo, we're almost all exactly the same (until folks start modding). Also, there's no way dealers are getting that sort of markup anymore unless they find an uneducated buyer. Nice choice of color for a test drive, btw.

I believe some say MY 02 and above make just a little more PWR.

You know, I don't really mind salesmen trying to get the best deal for them and the dealership. That's their job. But why can't they at least learn a little bit about the cars they sell.
I've had this problem all my life. I go into a shop to buy something and *I* know more about the product than the people who work there. So, if I go to buy something I know little about, I always take what they say with a grain of salt. Still, sometimes you have nothing else to go on. Sad.
Someone told me that it's just that the car sales people aren't car enthusiasts. But that's sort of sad, too.
