Default Trunk Leaks on 2001 S2K

The trunk seems to be leaking from up under the car. I checked the seals around the trunk and the lining in the upper trunk are always dry after a drenching rain, but if I pull the lining out there is a puddle about 1 inch deep in the bottom of the well. I've climbed under the trunk and looked for a plug and did not see anything.

Just wondering if anyone else had this problem. I had this 01 car for about 11 months (with only 35K in miles)and just discovered it about 6 weeks ago when I was cleaning out the trunk. You might better check yours too this weekend. Rust can be costly if left to settle.

I had a puddle in my02 about two weeks after I had bought it new. I didn't take it back to the dealer since they are worthless anyway, but I have never had that problem again

I have the same problem and it turned out to be a leak in the seal around the convertible top. Water cn travel through the gas tank area and puddle in the bottom without wetting the carpets.

I had some major surgery done to my car (backed into a concrete wall at about 80 mph). After that was repaired, I had a similar problem. I ended up tracking down many places where water was coming in -- there are a boatload of important locations.

Take the trunk lining out and find out where the water is coming in. I had it coming in from the top (ie. rain) and from the bottom (ie. spray from the wheels).

If there is even the smallest pinhole in the rear wheel wells, water will gush into the trunk when driven fast in the rain. You will know that is the problem if the water is coming from the side of the trunk.

If the water is coming from the front of the trunk, above the gas tank or spare tire area, then it is leaking past the drains on the front edges of the top. This can be verified with a hose.

There are other places the water can come in too, including the seal ttang mentions.

will the water soak in and cause rust?
My CF trunk doesn't seal as well as stock and if I drive in heavy rain I find water in the bottom. I'm worried it could soak through and start causing rust.

wow.. i never knew the car was so leaky.

About rustl; rust formed on the bottom of my trunk, but very very little, and there was standing water there for about 3 months before i discovered, so you shoudl be fine. I just got some paint primer and sanded down the rusted spots and sprayed over it and now it's fine
