This sucks that we have to wait for a recall postcard to get taken seriously!!!!
This TSB probably affects about 25,000+cars in the US so it's going to take some time to get 100,000+ new spark plugs made and distributed to various dealers. Have you even bothered checked the torque on your current plugs yet?

I, for one, have checked my plugs twice based on what has been discussed here in the past (I think it was Gregg Stevens who had the problem a while back). Once about 8 months ago at 4000 miles (after a couple of track days), and once this past Sunday (I now have about 8000 miles and a few more track events). Both times my plugs were torqued correctly, but I don't want to take any chances and would like to get the new plugs installed for piece of mind.

My biggest issue is that our local Honda dealer has only sold 5 or so S2000's since 1999 (they are a VERY small dealer), and they know VERY little about the car. I wanted to bring this TSB to their attention so that they would at least order the new plugs - otherwise they will never have them.

txst,

I'd print the scanned TSB and take it into your dealer so they know you're not messing around. Make sure you print out all the pages.

I've checked my plugs also, and they were torqued correctly. Of course, this is no guarantee that they won't come loose in the future.

I didn't even know about this TSB until my dealer called yesterday asking me to bring the car in. I haven't even received the card yet. They are really on top of this.

I think recalls are generally only for safety related problems. This isn't really a safety problem, so hence the TSB. Honda isn't doing this just to screw us all over, this is the way you handle something like this. I would just wait until you get the postcard in the mail and then go to the dealer. It would be hard for them to turn you away when you have a postcard in your hand from Honda telling you to get this TSB done.

The way I see it, if all the dealers are too idiotic to fix it, just keep driving it untill it breaks. I have done this before and it is quiet effective. Also they don't have any trouble finding the problem.

Hi Alz,

Thanks for posting your experience. No joy, eh? Well, we have a few other folks who've said they're visiting their dealers over the next few days.

Scott, you are the first person I've heard that's been directly contacted by your dealer. Buy 'em a coke!

All,

I think it's a shame that the wording of the TSB is so toned down. As a community, we are all concerned to see that Honda gives owners the opportunity to protect themselves against engine damage. The TSB doesn't make that risk clear to the dealers, so small wonder they're not being proactive (Scott's dealer notwithstanding).

This is such a simple thing, though, I'll bet most of us will get satisfaction on this over the next few months. The only advice I can offer is to try to coax your dealer to do the TSB sometime relatively soon. Maybe it'll catch on. If you're at all handy with a few tools, checking your plugs is really easy. Best wishes.
