Default TSB 02-042 quick fix-Too good to be true

Dropped off the S today for the "spark plug update", only to be called by the SM that they don't have the "part" in stock. Pick up the car, we'll call you when the part is in stock.
I asked about just replacing the plugs now and updating the manual later, and he checked with some muckety-mucks from AHM or region who were there today. He claims that it WILL be a new part with new washers, so he couldn't do a partial fix today.
So, Chazmo, maybe you're right, and maybe xviper was right and his plugs are loosening up on their own.

Ok, can someone please explain to me how these TSBs work? I just called Wesport Honda in Westport, CT to inquire about this TSB and I was told that the service bulletins are for the service department's eyes only and they will only perform the TSB if there is a problem caused by the faulty part (in this case, the spark plugs). In other words, I was told that no TSB will be performed unless there is a problem.

To me, this sounded a little weird, am I crazy or is this guy right?

Some TSB's say "if there is a problem", like decel buzz on TSB 01-054, then they'll fix it. On this one, it says "faulty washers...may cause misfire..." so replace the plugs. Doesn't give room for interpretation.
Talk with your service manager, if they give you a problem, ask for the number to regional or AHM. Or try another dealer.

I am having the same problem with my wonderful local Honda dealer (no wonder I didn't buy my car from them).

Anyway, they gave me the same song and dance - "Drop your car off and we'll see if you have a problem and if you do, then we will perform the TSB". I wanted to ask him if we should save me the trouble of loosening my plugs to 10 lb-ft before I drop it off, but I didn't.

I wouldn't let these idiots touch my car with a 10 foot pole. I wish I could find a dealer who would just hand me 4 new plugs and I would be on my way.

this particular TSB will be covered under warranty. I would just wait until the letter arrives and then contact the dealer. heck, they may not even have all the info and parts yet anyways.

People, part of the problem here is that AHM decided to do a TSB instead of a Recall (for publicity/image reasons for sure). They should have done a Recall then dealerships would be treating this much more seriously. Instead AHM wrote a very toned-down TSB and now dealerships are just following the rules AHM gave the for typical TSBs. The problem is this really isn't a typical TSB! We are all going to have to wait until we get our cards in the mail from Honda before most dealers are going to do the fix. I suspect Honda is doing this postcard thing the ensure the dealerships (or suppliers) have the parts before people start trying to schedule appointments for the work.

Has anyone rec'd a postcard yet? If not then why are you trying to get the TSB done? I believe TSB clearly says those affected will get a postcard. In the meantime we should all check the torque on our plugs and just wait a bit. I don't think bugging the dealers is going to get the TSB done any quicker (because they don't have the new parts).

No post card sent yet...but I am gonna try this bulletin this weekend to see what they say.
This sucks that we have to wait for a recall postcard to get taken seriously!!!! My 2 cents.
