tsb 54
Wasn't really bothering me too much, especially knowing the sound comes back if the plate is replaed, anyway, but am due for a service so I took the car in, had a guy ride with me, and he agreed, I have the sound.
The he tells me:
1. The clutch is warranted for only 12 mos/12k miles
2. They will take it apart and look at it, but if there is more than 50% wear, the cost is to be borne by me. If I decide not to proceed, then it'll be 500 bucks labor just to get a look.
What's the deal here? I thought 3yr/36k warranty. I understand clutch is a wear item, but 14k miles at this point ('01), never abused, and they could say, "oh, yeah, it's more than 50% used" and what do I know? For a part that Honda should replace gratis?
I know this topic has been beaten to death, but my questions are:
1. Is this dealer a scheister or is their information pretty much what you all heard?
2. If I don't care about the sound too much, why do it? Top's down most od the time anyway, and this sound is more apparent when the top is closed.
Thanks.

Every dealer is different...find another if you'd like to give this a shot. My dealer is decent and the mechanic on my team is more than adept with the S2000.
With that said, I'd purchased my S2000 used with 3K miles. At ~ 10K I mentioned during a visit that I have noticed the decel buzz, but that I am not interested in pursuing replacing the parts at that time (I wanted to get the issue documented). I came back to them ~ 32K miles and meekly said I was now in the position to have this maintenance completed
.
Worked like a charm. And again...there are definitely experiences of varying degrees of accomodation among dealers.
Good luck

that story is BS. there is no warranty on the clutch (i had to go through hell to get my clutch replaced when it fried at 8400 miles and this was before tsb 54). tell them to either do tsb 54 so they can make some $ (honda reimburses them) or you'll go to another dealer and loose your business.
