Transmission bearings?
I currently have my S2000 at Honda getting some warranty work done. My main shaft bearing in my transmission is making noise, which will be covered by warranty...but my questions is this. My service advisor recommended that while they have the transmission out and apart that I should change my other transmission bearings, I believe that he mentioned 8 of them to me. I was leaning towards just doing them all, but the others will not be covered under warranty. Do you think that it will be worth my while telling them to go ahead with them all? Or should I not bother? My S is an '01 with 57,000 miles.
Thanks in advance for the help.

It's going to be about 40 bux per bearing...so about an extra 500 bux for parts and labor.
The sound is the main shaft bearing, which is what I originally thought that it was, and Honda confirmed that with me today upon inspection. When the clutch is engaged there is no sound, when off the clutch it makes a whining noise, and before someone asks, no it's not the slave cylinder.
So like I said, I'm just torn about replacing the rest of the bearings or not while they are in there. Hmm what to do what to do.

IIRC, its the last three bearings on the tailshaft that gaul from low oil pressure that get replaced. Is this what they want to change? Im thinkng, so because $500 sounds about right for that work.
I believe that he said that they wanted to change the rest of the bearings in the trasmission...and I swear that he said there were 8 in total.
So do you think that I should just get those 3 ones that you mentioned changed and leave the rest?

I just received a call from Honda and it was great news! Honda warranty is covering all of the bearings in the transmission. Honda warranty in Canada is usually a pain in the butt, as now they want pics sent to them of all items looking to be covered by warranty. So my service advisor originally thought that it was going to be hard to get everything approved, but this is my lucky day, because one of the "high up the ladder" Canada Reps for Honda happen to be in the dealership where I have my car, and he saw that they had the whole trasmission pulled and apart...so he asked what they were doing to it and they explained that they had it all apart to change the bearings and were trying to get it covered under my extended warranty...so he said "don't worry about it, just do it, I'll take care of it". So he picked up the phone and made a call to Honda Canada Warranty and told them to cover the work!
