tweeter@a-pillar question(s)
for those of you who have had component speakers installed, and ended up putting the tweeters in/on/around the 'a' pillar, how did you do it? is it possible to pop the moulding off of the a pillar without tearing out the windshield or dash? i haven't had a chance to look into it too much just yet, but have some speakers on the way in a week or two, and thought i'd get a head start on my install plan. thanks.
The a-piller cover comes off without any tools being necessary. Just grab it near the top of the cover and pull up and towards the inside of the car. It comes off frighteningly easliy!
There are a variety of ways to mount the speakers in there...Sondra had little holes drilled and the speakers placed inside the a-pillar for a very VERY discrete installation. Others have mounted the speakers more conventionally.
I put my MB Quarts in the doors tho...
The first step is to slip off the cover...try it, it's very very easy.

.....which I got after doing a search for "a pillar".
Isn't this site just a wealth of information?

This is the job my ex did on my car. If you are interested in having this done for your car, he can buy the tweeters and a spare set of A pillars, mount them and send them to you. All you would have to do is pay a stereo shop to run wire from the head unit to the A-pillar, and voila, you're done. Email me if you're interested...
thank you all for the quick replies. i appreciate the offer on the pillars you have available, but hell, you'd take all the fun out of installing the stereo... i'm sure i'll regret having said that if/when i screw something up. anyway thanks again, those pics and the write-up are very encouraging. by the way, i saw in luis' linked post that he didn't think much of his stereo imaging, how do you guys/gal feel about yours?

WHAT stereo Imaging? In my S2K? I'm looking to upgrade someday, but for now, the stereo is just background noise to my VTEC and the wind.
But seriously, I thinkit would be pretty hard to set up a really decent system w/o finding some better speaker locations. No more "fader effect" when you move your knee or bend your leg. =)

yu888,
I have the 3" midrange and 1" tweeter from a 3-way DynAudio component set in the dash (with the 7" in the stock location) and it images beautifly with the top down. Sure, I had to remove the dash and do extensive work to it but it is worth it... I truly enjoy high end audio in my vehicles...
I need to post pics one of these days... especially of the 6-disc changer in the stock head location...
