I think this has to do with the fact that many are buying them used. I've seen used Boxsters on no name car lots going for $20k.

Let's rank on Porsche for that silly center exhaust. There is a distinctly anal connotation to having that great big hole in the center. If you don't have dual exhausts, the correct location for the exhaust pipe, in countries where we drive on the right, is on the left and therefore not blowing fumes at the pedestrians. Pipe in the middle: strictly for fecal elimination.
And the Boxster is a boring looking car with a stupid looking single exhaust in the center back end. But I'm no Porsche fan either. I've never liked the typical Porsche front end design either.
