Obviously there is no unbiased option on a forum in which people own one car or the other.
I'm gonna have to say it

How can the steering feel quicker if the steering ratio has been reduced in the AP2?

sure bout that?
I think you have it backwards.

ap1: Steering Ratio 13.8
ap2: Steering Ratio 14.9
Thanks for pointing that out, I thought the bigger number meant a faster ratio.

Here's a simple answer for all these threads:

If you're new to the S2000 definately buy an AP2, but for your second S2000 strongly consider an AP1.

If you are new to RWD or this is your first sports car, get the 06-07 with VSA, it'll save your ass on a rainy day.

Come on now, the stearing ratio had to change with the tire size change. This kept the actual change in ratio to null.

I think the guy is getting good advice (drive both and then decide) but you're right about not being able to get an unbaised opinion here. If anyone is unbiased and just posts the actual differences, which is what I always try to do, simply listing the differences makes some of the AP2 owner think their car is being put down, and they start crying about it. Doesn't matter how you say it either; You can call the changes "changes" or "improvements" and some of the guys still get all upset and start crying. You can even start out by saying that the performance is virtually identical (which I often do) and then list the changes, and there will be somebody who gets all upset.

It isn't that we don't have unbiased people here, but rather that we have so many biased people that the unbiased one's get lost in the shuffle, and eventually give up (and sometimes go away). We're going to see this kind of questions more and more, as more S2000 become available on used car lots, and given our history here we probably won't ever be able to handle it well. I've given it my best and I'm almost convinced that it's a total waste of time and effort.

I really hate that we can't discuss the history of our cars and the changes over the years without people getting their ego's involved or their feelings hurt, and it takes more away from S2kI than anything else that goes on here. If anyone has any suggestions as to how we might improve the situation how about starting a thread and sharing your ideas.

9k vs. 8k !!

and the 8k version is a bit more tame...
the rest of the differences are details-
except that you can not buy a new 9k!
only if you lost a race w/ the 9k rev, then you know what im talking about 83k,im sure honda shorten the redline for a reason, and i've seen many ap1 dyno out there, don't suprised me and only bad thing about ap2 is the CDV.other then that you'll feel the difference in performance.

They shortend the redline because they increased the stroke. This gave us the low end torque needed to survive an American rush-hour. It's all about the trade-offs. I wonder if they could have given us both torque and 9k by increasing the bore. Of course that would have required a slightly large block, and cost Honda more.
