I remember a while back I read an article about the old Honda S500, S600, S800 - it had a quote by one of the designers saying something to the effect that the front end should look like a tiger with it's paws out and ready to pounce...maybe that's where the term Tiger from Tochigi comes from...

The car is known in Japan as the "Tochigi Tiger"

First and foremost I would want it to be of excellent quality materials and construction. I plan on having my car for a verrrrrry long time and would want it to last just as long.
Secondly I definatly want something very simple, a silhouet of a dragon might work, but really just a silhouet.
I also think we should focus the design on what the Stook stands for. 9000RPM redline, fast, sleek, no frills and purposefull.

In the tradition of heraldry it should honor the heritage of the car.

Artist depiction of Soichiro Honda as a Samurai. Just a simple portrait of the face or eyes done in the style of Ukiyoe.

I like the dragon concept too. Many swords of the Samurai have a dragon as the focus of their artwork.

Horses or cats??? No thanks. Overdone.

As for Honda, particularly AHM, I think you have to remember that it's basically a corporate beauracracy, large, slow moving, hidebound, and certainly not entrepreneurial. If they were really smart, flexible and adaptive, and quick on their feet, they'd embrace this board have a strong presence on it and attempt to take every possible advantage of our passionate interest in this car. If it weren't for the engineers in Japan and the vision of the founder, I hate to think what we'd have. What will Honda's presense be in Asheville, for example? If I were AHM, I'd be buying air tickets to North Carolina for the engineers who designed that car, so that they can talk about their work and discuss the car with us. What a brand-loyalty builder that would be! And with this badge thing, if I were AHM I'd be seeing how I could help to design a distinctive badge that incorproates some Honda symbols but creates something unique for the S2000. Instead, I'm sure, they'll be looking to make sure we don't make some unauthorized use of their symbols.

Frankly, they just don't appear to get it.

there seems to be two groups in for the badge:
one wanting a dragon
one wanting a classic design

why don't we make two different badges but each having a unifying theme?

In the hands of a good designer, these are not necessarily conflicts. I'm sure we're going to have a number of very good designs to review. My only concern about having several badges produced is cost. I have no idea now what the cost might be and we can't even get an estimate until we have a design, but I promise whatever we do will be very distinctive and tasteful. We won't even show designs that don't meet those standards.

I'm very excited about this, and I'm aiming to have prototypes ready to put on a few cars in time for Asheville.

Here's a dragon that could be the basis for a badge motif, used as a subtle backdrop or in a more visible way.

Ladies and Gentlemen of a very special work of art. One can design all types of ornaments to hang on our car. Each one changes the masterpiece that is unique, and why?... just to emulate some other that may have been seen or admired. We have no reason to emulate some other car's design or logo. What has been created is a work of art, and if you change its outward appearance, you depreciate its total worth. Hang things on the outside and you lose its repuation as a true thoroughbred. It has a world reputation. It would be a pity to lose it. Its beauty is its simplicity and subtle performance. Please don't despoil it. Thank you.
