Personally, I don't like shifting higher than 3,000 or 3,500 in daily driving, because above that the engine noise and vibration is annoying, especially with the top up.

But you're right, it does depend a lot on your point of view!
Each one of you who made your individual statements are fully justified to have made them because they are both true statements for each of you. I'm just saying, from the OP point of view, it can't be both and sounds confusing.

the new Civic Si will actually hold its rev for a bit after releasing the gas pedal for emissions purposes... bugs many owners off

It certaily does me!

I recently took delivery of an '06 Civic sedan. Driving normally, it's not too bad but when I gotton on it, so to speak, the DBW system really likes to let the engine hang for a second or two before allowing the revs to drop on an upshift. It is a total PITA. There just no way to do a smooth upshift when it does that.

I've also found that it's not entirely consistant about what kind of response I'm going to get when coming off the line. I either wind up lugging the engine or the revs go to the moon. Some days it's really frustrating but I'm slowly adjusting to it.
