I've never seen a picture of a CAI equipped car with the front bumper off, forgive my ignorance, but wouldnt opening up those fake side vents direct air right to the filter?

i agree. why?
i knew a guy who ran a custom CAI with the faux vent cut and he was fine in serious rain as a daily driver. i didnt know of any adverse side affects.

I also wonder? why? I have mine opened for this reason, and have driven through several of the rainstorms we have been having in california, as well as left it parked outside for hours without any umbrella of this sort and without the hole (between the fender/hood) plugged...

I have had no problems...

a little water is OK for the engine, hence water injection, cooling intake temps and such...you just have to be careful when you initialy start the car, make sure vacuum isn't soo strong to pull water in and your fine,

however, as a precaution, I do plan to buy one of these umbrellas...just to be on the safe side

I have my fake vent opened up. It's not that big of a deal. It's a bigger deal to cover up the holes under the hood. Sometimes when it's pouring really hard...your filter will get wet and you will have trouble hitting v-tech in the rain....it pretty much stops you from doing so -i.e. once you hit vtec, you power will drop because the wet filter will not allow a lot of airflow. But other than that...just make sure you don't have water dripping on the filter and collecting inside of it. I've had semi-hydro lock...but nothing serious. I lucked out big time...cuz i didn't cover my hood holes. ANyway, just be careful and you'll be alright. Oh yeah...summer's almost here...no more worries till next winter.
