"Side story: I knew a guy for whom that deluxe towing option really paid off..."

Good point! Any vehicle can strand you, and there's more than one way to get stuck.

Lmao...damn I would love to see an s2k with an ls1 in it. I'm a big fan of the ls1 engine....but I'll keep my lil f20c...with a lil boost it'll be up to par.

As in: "Corvettes spend twice as much time in the shop as S2ks, and wear out twice as fast."

A co-worker has a ZR-1 and was making a big deal out of his AAA membership with the "deluxe" towing allowance. I told him I'd be concerned about towing too, if I owned a GM car. Haha - burn!!
It is a well documented fact that the ZR-1 had issues. The LT5 motor in it was actually a Lotus design made by Mercury Marine. It was the only DOHC motor in an Corvette.

I guess we can close down the Under the Hood forum here since no S2000s ever break.

Yeah I know the motor was made by Mercury Marine - what's your point?

Hmmm ... did I say "No S2000s ever break."? Nope, I didn't say that

However, I can tell you that the October 2005 issue of "Consumer Reports" stated that "previous versions" of the Corvette "have been unreliable" I don't think they were referring to the ZR-1. In the same issue, they describe the S2000 thus: "recent reliability has been average."

Gee, sounds like the S2K might just be more reliable than the 'Vette. Oh OK maybe not twice as reliable, but ... wait, there's more!!

The same issue of "Consumer Reports" evaluated problems found in newly designed car models.

For Honda: 20 problems per 100 vehicles in a first model year
For GM: 50 problems per 100 vehicles in a first model year

For Honda: less than 20 problems per 100 vehicles in a second model year
For GM: 40 problems per 100 vehicles in a second model year
Dang: 40 is twice 20 ain't it?

For Honda: 20 problems per 100 vehicles in a third model year
For GM: 30 problems per 100 vehicles in a third model year

Are we noticing a trend here?
Consumer reports also went on and on about the great winter driving ability of the FWD layout on the MR2 MkII (Which is, of course, RWD.)

I wouldn't trust CR for anything automotive. They get WAY more wrong than is acceptable in my book, so I no longer read their auto reviews and comparisons.

The reports of quality issues on the "previous" generation corvettes were the 1984-1996 cars. The 1997-2004 have been reported to be very reliable overall, and the LS1 motor has been flat-out bulletproof.

If you dig further into the numbers you quoted, you will find that the most poorly rated car in GMs lineup is the Pontiac Vibe which is actually manufactured for GM by Toyota. However, because it is sold under a GM brand it gets labled as a problem with GM. This is just one example where the numbers don't always tell the whole story.

Your original post made it seem like there were corvettes occpying space in lifts everywhere and no one ever gets to drive them. I was merely pointing out that that notion is false and misleading.
