Valet??....sure why not?.....hell no!!!!
I worked for a private club in LA where valet was the only way you could park. I'd always see those guys hauling ass around the garage. I'll never forget the night I saw a guy get a new Porsche airborn while driving up a ramp. Keep in mind these guys are always on the run because thay said the faster someones car is brought up,the better the tip.
I had a nice valet experience last night. Pulled up, got out and told the girl..."just for reference, to start the car, put the clutch in, turn the key, and the start button is to the left of the steering wheel" to which she responded "I race cars for fun"....Then when leaving, I gave her my ticket, and the guy went to get my car, while i was talking to her. She was telling me she has a 91 MR2 TWIN TURBO!!! Running 10.2's without nitrous! We got to talking (Since my car was 3 blocks away) and at the end of the conversation I was just amazed, so I asked her (joking obviously) if she would marry me, and she said she was getting married to the guy who went to get my car...who was also very cool. I didnt have any cash on me, and I apologized to him for not being able to tip him, and he said a 3 block drive in the car was all he needed, complimented me on the car and I left. All in all a nice night at the club!
Nice,
you see not all valet experiences are bad. There have been some good points made for why you don't valet......and to be honest I'll probably stop using the service.
In some cases as mentioned it's the only option. The other thing to consider is that I would sometimes prefer my car to be parked in the reserved valet spots w/less public traffic than way out in the parking lot trying to avoid dings where it's suseptable to anything.......
The "start" button could be an issue......even if you tell the guy whose gonna park it....what about the guy/girl who picks it up?

I just went a wedding this past Saturday. Here's what I do: I drive up to the valet and kindly ask if I can park my own car somewhere out front. I then proceed to hand the guy a $10 (no $1, please). Most people give shitty tips to valets. A $10 AND he doesn't have to park another car. Worked like a charm. The guy even told me he wouldn't park anyone else next to me. During the wedding, I stepped outside for a cigar and there was my baby...all alone and well looked after.
Works every time. Try it.
