Default Vandalism, Theft, and the Stook

I'd like to buy a Stook, but I currently don't have a garage and don't live in the nicest town right now. I've never had my '98 Toyota Tacoma broken into here, but then again, I don't have aftermarket stereo equipment in it and my windows are not tinted, so everything (meaning nothing...) is in plain view.

In your experience, is this car likely to attract vandals and thieves? Are the parts and accessories hot items on the stolen market? On some of the RSX and Integra forums I have visited, it seemed theft and break-ins are major concerns with these cars and I would like to know if the same applies to the Stook.

Until my transfer is finalized and I move away from here, the fact is my Stook will not have a garage to live in and I'm a little concerned...

Well, yes, it is a target car, for several reasons. First, the seats and shift knob are especially desireable items, and seem to get stolen often from cars with no garage to live in. The top isn't much of a security shield, i'm afraid. It's also pretty flashy and noticeable, as you know, and vastly moreso than a stock Tacoma. I'd recommend against it, or purchase the seat locks (look up McGard Seat locks through Kodokan_4) and a good alarm system, perhaps with some motion sensor spotlights that you can install to ward off anyone looking around at night.

Good luck, and I hope you can figure out a way to protect it.

And please stop calling it the "stook." I hate it when people do that...

Yes, please be careful with your 'stook'. Those dang Celica, IS300, Acura and Honda boys want your parts.

I had someone put their cigarette out on my top, but that's the only form of vandalism to my vehicle without parking in a garage.

Well i haven't had any problems yet (car doesn't have a garage)after almost one year, but the city i live in is pretty quiet. But if i were a thief i think i would target the s2000 just because of the soft top more easy to get into.

Don't buy a S unless you have a garage and can park it there EVERY night.
