The Vanishing Brake Fluid Cap
So... I took my s2000 in (to Honda) for a service checkup about four months back. I am kind of retarted when it comes to mechanical know how so during the four months after taking it in to Honda I never actually opened the hood again. Add to that it has been a very stressful 4 months and I havn't even had much of a chance to enjoy driving the car (except for one road trip) so I am absolutely positive that I never opened the hood. On Monday I took my car to an oil changer for obvious reasons. The second they opened my hood they noticed that the cap to my brake fluid was missing. They immediately made me get out of the car to take a look (so they could not be held liable for losing the cap) I am 100% certain that they did not lose the cap, they simply didn't even have time to unscrew it. After changing my oil they fixed me up with a plastic bag and a rubber band to act as a temporary cap for my short drive to the dealership.
When I arrived at the dealership I told them the whole story. I told them that they were the last people to open my hood and now, four months later, the cap to the brake fluid is gone. Honda (of oakland) pretty much called me a liar. They said that at some point I must have opened my hood and taken off the brake fluid cap. Mind you, I never said that they lost the cap, I just simply stated that they were the last ones to pop my hood. Still they ordered me a new cap which should be here tomorrow at which point I will get my brake fluid drained and refilled. Still this nagging question of how my brake fluid cap went missing remains in my head. The more I think about it the more certain I am that the hood was not opened for four months (I know, I'm neglecting it, but it's been a tough four months so lay off). Any ideas on what may have happened? As I said I don't know much about mechanics so I am pretty much drawing a blank. Is it possible that it unscrewed itself and fell off? Maybe somebody stole it for some reason (i doubt it)? Any ideas on this would be nice, thanks in advance.

So I could have been driving without a brake fluid cap that whole time? The mechanic at Honda told me that my brakes would have gone out minutes after driving out of the place. thank god for these forums, that makes me feel a lot better.
The only way your gonna lose brakes completely is if you lose fluid. Which, I see it possible to lose the cap, and still hold some fluid in the reservoir. Especially if your not driving the car hard, getting into turns hard, etc.
Your in a tough position right now, and its gonna be nearly impossible to put this on Honda. Your main concern right now should be contamination to the brake system. If that cap was off for 4 months(which boggles my mind), you have definitley taken in a lot of debree, dust, etc.
