Default Vented Hood and Stock Intake Concern

Guys, i've been looking around it the forum and went to a thread (post your underhood). I took a look at a few and notice someone with a vented hood with a stock intake. Considering purchasing a vented hood very soon i see that water falls directly on the air box and it could just lead to the air box entrance which is harmul if it does suck up that water. To anyone who has/had a vented hood and stock intake am i rite that it falls directly on the box and can water enter? even through heavy rain??? Thanks

i have very little rain get into my stock airbox. the oem box seams to have a pretty good seal around it. i removed it once out of curiousty after a heavy rainfall and found a few drips.

shouldnt be a concern..

I had a puddle of water in my intake box after I washed my car with my J's hood. I covered the hole soon after and havent had a problem since. BTW, I left a 1/4 inch gap on the far drivers side for water drainage.

J's Racing hood, both with stock and PRM intake. Zero water issues.

its good to hear that theres no problems, it bugged me because since the water falls on the box i was thinking where would it go and how it would spread out. I guess theres no way of water on the box to reach the entrance

Actually there is, all we did was wash the car to test it out and water fell on the intake box and actually got under the filter. I guess it got in where the intake tubing goes into the box, dont know if the seal there is tight enough. We put a thin sheet of aluminum over the vent (still looks good) and it took care of the water problems.

I know some people said they had no problems, but I know I'd rather be safe than sorry, just my .02 cents.

Heres a pic of my hood with the aluminum peice attached. Its actually pretty cool, cuz you dont even notice it, it makes the vent stand out more if you ask me. All we used to attach it was some silicone (clear) we took the hood off and layed the aluminum over the vent and it held on its own since the vent has a lip and put silicone around the edges, its works perfect
