And why miss the buzz of 3rd gear acceleration, the most fun gear in this car? .... IMO. I love those 3rd gear vtec blasts off the on-ramp onto the freeway.

"Skip shifting" is NOT a good thing. Even Honda USA's main tech guy in Torrence, CA said so. There's even pics on this forum showing what this can do to the syncros.

As Xviper states, this is not good to the syncros.........

You've been here 5 days......please learn more about the car before you start providing information.

Not a dumb question at all.

The short answer is no, it's not okay.

The not-so-short answer is ...

When you're going 50 mph in 2nd gear, your rpm is about 6500 for a pre-04 (though I'm guessing a bit on the exact number, because I have an 04). For 50 mph in 5th gear, the rpm is about 3100. So, you're dropping revs by over 3000 rpm.

Conversely, shifting from 4th to 5th at 50 mph only drops revs by about 600 or so rpm. Even a 4th to 5th shift at redline only results in a 1400 rpm drop.

Anyway, the point is that the synchros in 5th and 6th aren't designed to handle these big 3000+ rpm changes, and forcing them to handle it can break stuff.

Damage from Skipping Gears

This is the tread xviper was referring to.
