You should feel the steering rate change. If the steering input required changes with speed, you have yourself a VGS. If it doesn't, you've got yourself a standard. It will be VERY noticable.
I would imagine that the difference is extremely subtle, and most non-S2000 owners would not be able to tell.

Even most people wouldn't notice the slower steering ratio on the AP2.

Anyway, if dickers is really getting the white 2004 AP1, I would say it's a real Type V. At least that's what I heard from friends who seems to know people in the second hand auto market.

I recently drove the Audi A4 with "Active Steering", which i think is the same (or at least similar) to the VGS you guys are talking about. I only got to drive it a short time on a very easy autocross course, and I found it very disorienting. I have done a few autocrosses in my s2k, and i find the regular steering of my car to be much more intuitive in slow corners, since the steering will always behave the same.

That said, I only drove the A4 for a short while, and didn't have a chance to get used to it. If I were buying a new car though, I definitely wouldnt choose to have VGS, but that is my preference.

I'm not going to bother searching for it right now, but the best way to tell is to measure how many turns lock to lock. The true VGS cars, IIRC, require fewer turns than standard steering cars.

Maybe you're right, but to my understanding it should be VERY noticeable. I think steering lock to lock is halved at slow speeds to something like 1.4 turns lock to lock. If it's truly halved, there should be a definite noticeable difference.

Let me remind everyone that the S2000 TypeV not only has the VGS but also a different (stiffer) suspension setup ! See my thread:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=299040

However my knowledge stops at the AP1 (2000cc) which was on sale in Japan until... 2006 maybe ? I do not know the AP2 (2200cc) details as well.

Cheers

Now that is one disadvantage factor on the VGS ... You cannot drift the VGS car in anyway, form, or style. That the non-VGS version is better.

Sorry for this bump..

But can you drift the VGS around simple corners? And / or round a bounds.. just little showoff.. ?
