I'm experiencing a noise, almost like a vibration, or a "rasberry" when I let off of the gas pedal & the motor winds down. This only happens when the engine is warm.

The dealer thought it was first in one of the mufflers, but then decided the motor was too tightly bolted down (???), and said he had corrected the problem by loosening & retightning everything.

I still have the noise, and am taking the car back to the dealer tomorrow, with grave doubts that he is going to be able to solve the problem.

Any help out there? Anyone ever have a similar problem? It's a shame for such a lovely sounding car.

Sounds like one of the heat shields. Maybe making contact with some other metal.

Jim, are you experiencing this sound when you let the motor rev down between 4 to 3k? If so, it's not pretty, but it's normal. *I* think it's the exhaust manifold's heat shield. Others think that it's the clutch, which I don't think it is. I can't explain why this is the case, but when I put the HKS cat back on, that sound went away. But it started to come back, but not as loud, after a few months.

Maybe you could have someone give it gas and see what happens at 4-3k rpm while you listen under the hood. Perhaps the heat shield will need tightening, I don't know...but it's something that just about everyone has, unfortunately.

It was not heat shields on my car.. I pulled them off to prove they had nothing to do with it (they are back on now). It was the clutch and the noise went away when it was replaced. I can believe that it would be less with a cat back change because the exhaust noise could mask the clutch noise.. now that I have the HKS I might not know if the noise came back.

I think I have this noise too, only when decelerating in lower gears. I just thought it was normal. It's not that loud.

I was pleased to get so many answers so quickly. Looks like this is a good list!

The sound is slight, but annoying. It can be heard when tapping the accelarator lightly, up to about 4.000. The noise is noticeable when sitting still, particularly more with the clutch in, than when in neutral (?).

As I let off the pedal, the noise rides over the top of the motor swell, and growls or vibrates as it drops down to about 2.000.
