The knob is so great because the countersinking reduces the overall height of the shifter by about an inch. The result is an even shorter throw and faster shifts. It's not about looks, though they look pretty cool too. (IMHO)

Good question...I just took the advice of others that said that the magnum size felt better. There is not really that much difference in the two sizes...about 1/8 inch I think. I did not want to have to grip...wait a minute... if I didn't know we were talking about shift knobs I would swear this was a conversation about...well you get the picture!

 

Spun aluminum regular size. Cheap and effective.
