Vortech SC'ed S2000 in 9/02 Road & Track
Well, I'll do my best to summarize the article ....
- 118 additional bhp
- 358 bhp total
- 13.8 @ 105.6 vs 14.1 @ 99.6 (as tested in 9/00)
- 5.4 sec 0-60
Road & Track also mentioned that they had to launch the car 1000 rpm less than stock. They stated that the car seems bone stock below 4000 rpm and that the power doesn't seem meaningful until somewhere around VTEC at 6000 rpm where the SC'er is supplying around 3.5 lb of boost. Full boost at 9000 rpm.
The article also went into a few other parts of the kit, aftercooler, and fuel management, etc. Overall a pretty interesting article ... to bad it was only about 1 full page. Anyway, just wanted to share the info.
regards,
Jaysom

0-60 times is the quintessential abstaction of all that is numb and evil about motojournalistic marketing slag.
big cubic inches get off the line with authority, peaky motors don't

$5k for something that is probably tempermental as hell (11.0 compression is not ideal for super chargers or turbo chargers eh), then barely outruns a stock S2000.... o well... nice trap speed difference!!!
so if you own a supercharged s2000, you just have to make sure you race someone to 120mph or more to guarantee the win.

Those times suck! Motor Trend got those exact same times with a stock s2000 when they first tested it. And of course it feels stock until Vtec, because a SC's power is proportional to the engine's power- and the S doesnt make any noticable power until Vtec.
Unless you are Dario Franchitti you are better off spending the money on driving school. Moter trend has posted 0-60 times of 5.2 sec for a stock s2000. I wonder who was driving over at R&T that day?

I'm not making this reply toward anyone who made a comment in this thread, or the people at R&T. But unless you have gone for a ride or actually driven a Vortech supercharged s2000, you don't know what you saying, all you know are the things you read. This does not always translate to the real world. People tend to believe anything they hear these days. We are so deep into what we read in magazines and newspapers.
I had my car for almost 2 years. Rode in plenty s2's with different mods from bolt on NA parts to Comptech and Vortech supercharger kits. It is day and night stock S2000 vs Comptech/Vortech. S2 is not a drag car. But it's a very fast street car.
We have not had the chance to take our few Vortech S to the track yet. But on the street, this car is a monster compared to the stock s2k. I think that more S2000 drivers spend their time on the street. So, you can make comments regarding someone else's track time, different possible driver, different possible temperture. The R&T times make no difference to me, the real world does. Don't believe everything you read in the papers. Go and find someone who actually have a Vortech kit and ask for a test drive. No one here spends $32,000 on a car that drag the quater in 14.1. We bought the car for its other qualities; amazing handling and fast performance on the street. The supercharger only compliments this performance on the street. It remains the same character the S brings and when you hit VTEC, the monster truly comes out.

These are some interesting perspectives on SC. Costly, and I too will struggle with if it is worth it for me.
If it adds "fun" to the car, then probably worth it. A lot of fun, okay a lot of money could be sacrificed maybe. Not much more fun, then why bother because the S2K is already a blast as is.
I will be interested to see the feedbacks on this thread.
I hope the CT SC people will jump in as well with their feedback.
