New Owner of a 2002 S2K.

Does the engine have to be at certain operating tempature before the VTEC will operate?

Please advise

This is something I'd ask the pros.. I know from experience I've always enjoyed reading insight from Mindcore and GaryJ and those other young guys :-)

yes... the 3 bars indicate that the temp has been reached.
so always wait for 3 bars on your temp gauge before driving hard.

What he said but I would add that there is a rev limiter that won't let you take it above 6500 RPM until the temps are up. I'm not suggesting you use this as a guide (hitting it is not pleasent) but 3 bars on the temp gauge works.

Three bars is good, but you might wait a little after that to let the oil get up to the proper temperature. This was pointed out in some previous posts.
