VTEC is overrated
there is no doubt that the engine gets louder and things seem to be moving faster. however, there is no "kick"- I'm not saying that this is what I expect, but I am saying that so many people claim to feel this kick and there is so much hype over it. I think vtec does great things for our car, it gets it moving and moving fast, but like i said, its OVER RATED- kinda like Vince Carter.
I believe the transition "feel" varies from car to car. My S2000 definitely lurches forward when entering VTEC-land and it is quite pronounced. I'm not sure if having an S2000 170-odd lbs lighter than stock makes a difference but it's definitely noticeable.
VTEC is a wonderful thing. Nowaday, most cars have it, in one form or another, but VTEC was made famous by Honda over a decade ago.
The VTEC engagement in my S is very noticeable, even more so with a CAI. VTEC is NOT a turbo, guys. It doesn't "kick" in so dramatically. But it is very noticeable for me nonetheless, and very exhilarating with the 9000 RPM.

The Vtec on the B18c1 is way way more dramatic then the s2k. I just got my S2k so I was expecting the Vtec to be more dramatic then the GSR, But to me its not. The power just keeps surging and 3rd gear ripped me a new asshole! lol.

[B]REV IT,
I also came to the s2000 from the CL-S. I think that VTEC engagement is much more noticeable in the S as compared to the CL-S. Not to mention the extra 2.5k/rpm that is on tap from the S. But you are also comparing the low-torque S to the fairly matched CL. My CL-S always felt smooth all the way through the RPM's where as the S I feel that I have to keep the RPM's up to get that same power-response feeling. Please don't take that as a complaint, cause I will take the S any day over the CL-S. It's apples to oranges! I do have to say though that it is quite a good feeling to hear that VTEC engage especially with the top down!
