Default VTEC Question

I have 200 miles on my car and I have been babying it ( not letting the VTEC kick in). I punched it today and it seemed to cut the gas, like a governor cut in around 6000-6500 rpms. Is there some governor that cuts in if you abuse it too early in its young life? I only did it B/C I am leasing it . Anyway, was it just me or has it happened to anyone else?

It's in relation to your coolant temp. Let the car warm up to 3 "bars" and you will not have this problem.

First of all, SHAME ON YOU

Have control man, wait till the break in period is over.

Yeah, what he said, the car needs to be warm before you Vtec, also, the oil temp is not warm when you first get to 3 bars on the meter anyway. Should wait a while longer for best engine protection.

Enjoy your ride!!!

Uh, oh, leasing the vehicle and "gettin' on it" a bit too soon... I do the same when I'm on the road for work and have to get a rental. I VTEC the hell out of those Mustang convertibles...

Have fun. cowboy!

Thanks for the info. I think I will wait till my break in period is over and then wait till it warms up.

Punching it reminds me of a time last year at work when the temporary maintenence kids turned on the sprinklers and didn't bother to see the direction of the watering. My car was right under the flow of water (luckily I had the top up) and it got soaked while it was under the sun as well. At lunch time I went out and decided to drive it real fast up and down the driveway to get as much of the water off as possible before parking it out of harms way. I put it in first and started off. I almost slammed my head into the steering wheel when it bogged because it was not warmed up yet. It was my first time I experienced the "don't go into VTEC before three bars" lesson. Never again!!!
