WOW! With the proper tool, adjusting the headlight beams is so easy, it's actually fun!
I purchased a Craftsman Phillips Head Driver with an 8" exposed shank. It's the perfect tool for the job. I used a flashlight to guide the driver into the adjuster mechanism, then it stayed by itself.
Here is a pic of the aligned beams. Now I just need an appropriate level place to measure the beam height. They are definitely too high at the moment. I also posted this pic up with the others.
I can see that I didn't align them correctly. I thought the driver's side beam was supposed to be lower, but I checked the service manual, and they are both the same height, so I'll try again tomorrow.
When I was aligning the beams, I sat in the car to see how much the beam pattern would move with my weight in the car. When I got in, the beam pattern didn't budge, but I'll try again next time (I'm 160 lbs).
Okay, in the brightest part of the beam, see how you have a bright landing to the left, and two bright stairsteps to its right? Now notice the dim light above the landing? If I remember correctly (haven't been night driving in the S in a while), the dim light should be level with the top of the rightmost step, not the middle step. That should raise the driver's side light just enough.
