Pete I always thought the beam pattern was suppose to look like this? Ignore the X's. Am I reading your picture wrong? You shouldn't have two of those when reflecting off the wall.

Dan-

I haven't had my car for 3 months, but I seem to remember that there was just one pattern, like you are describing.

I will do the horizontal alignment, per the service manual, but I still have not seen or read any info on vertical alignment.

If I could bring the beams together to show one pattern, it would still only work at a specified distance. Before that point, the beams would be separated, and after it, the beams would be crossed. I'm guessing the beams should probably be facing straight ahead (no vertical alignment), but I'm not sure.

If your beam pattern is as you describe, maybe you can park your car about 25 feet from a wall at night with your lights on. Don't worry about being exact. Look at your beam pattern (and take a pic for us), and see if it looks like the pic shown above.

I'm curious about it, and I want to get my beams adjusted correctly!

Pete,

I am trying to think about this logically (which could be my first mistake) but I think you are wrong. Since the beam pattern is designed for the driver's side to be lower then the passenger side at no point should that change. If the light is pointed down it should always be pointed down no matter how far apart you are from it. I have an area near me where I can get about 20ft or so away. I'll try and get a pic for you tonight.

Here I am speaking about vertical alignment.

In other words, moving the headlights left and right, not up or down.

That is the only way to make the patterns come together, like your illustration.

The service manual illustration seems to show two patterns, but it is an incomplete diagram.

The left one needs to be lowered slightly.

Damn, I was just going to raise the right one!

I would like to do the whole adjustment process, including tire pressure and level checking, and I'm going to try to measure the 52mm beam drop exactly. I know there are lots of real-world variables, but I just want to do it for the experience.

I think you are probably right, if you are saying there is no need for any other type of adjustment.

Thanks, Sideways.

I took some rough measurements last night.

Driver's side beam = 22.5 inches from deck.

Passenger's side beam = 17 inches from deck.

Looks like the Driver's side beam has to go down, and the passenger side needs to go up!

I tried turning the adjusters last night with a wrench, but the beams didn't seem to move (it must take a lot of turning).

Today I will get an appropriate LONG Phillips head driver, and try again.

Which way raises/lowers each headlight beam?
