You're supposed to clean the filter every 15K miles or so. You can go longer than that, but in Florida, 15K miles is probably a good recommendation. Just check it every 5K miles to see how it's looking.

Buy a K&N recharge kit to clean it. You may want to buy an additional filter, as it does take a few hours for the filter to dry once you recharge it. So unless you have the day to sit around, if you already have a backup filter, you can pop it in and be good to go while the other one is cleaned and dried.

 

Is the K&N filter recharge kit really right? K&N is cloth with a red colored oil and the Comptech is foam with a yellow oil.

 

I guess they would work in the same principal. That is the only cleaning agent and restorer for the intake. I use it twice so far and had no ill affect so far.
