Default Water shield for CAI?

Is this the shield which can prevent hydrolock with a CAI? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...&category=38634

you need bypass valve for CAI not a heat shield

What I think most CAI users are most concerned about is water dripping onto the filter from the drain hole, not running through puddles. That heat shield would prevent water from dripping onto the filter (and soaking through and eventually being sucked into the engine if there was enough water in the tube). There are a couple of drain holes on each side of a water channel under where the edge of the hood would be when its shut. The one closest to the front of the car on the passenger's side is the culprit. If you look straight down that hole, you can see your filter. With a good, heavy downpour water may drip onto the filter, eventually soaking through and puddling up in the intake tube.

I have devised a cheaper and easier solution. It weighs less as well. I put a piece of black electrical tape over that hole. Its been there for 2 months now and my filter has stayed bone dry even when sitting in the heaviest of downpours. That's what I would suggest to all who may be concerned about this type of hydrolock problem. To those concerned about the other type of hydrolock (running through deep puddles), I would suggest you not run through deep puddles and you should probably be ok.

does anyone have pics of the hood holes? I'll be sure put tape on them if I get a CAI.

You don't need a bypass valve unless you are going to be driving through bodies of water. In that case, you need a snorkel extention, a la the humvee or jeep.
