Actually, your buddy's right--you don't need a spring compressor. The ghetto way to do it is to wrap a blanket in between the coils of the spring and tightly around the spring itself. When you unbolt the top nut, the spring will "pop" a little (maybe about an inch) and you can take it off that way. How do I know? Well, I've done it before.

Also, since you're installing lowering springs, they will be shorter than stock so you shouldn't need a spring compressor to install them back onto your stock shocks.

HOWEVER, I do want to stress that this method is not recommended and can be dangerous!! Autozone rents those spring compressors for free (w/ deposit) so go get one of those...much safer.

i didn't use a spring compressor. I used my own body weight to push down on the shock. There's very little pop, nothing violent.

YOU DO NOT NEED SPRING COMPRESSORS, i did it my self with out them

all you need is a towl a 2x4 a allen key and a 14 mill wrench

i got the shocks out but having alot of trouble taking it apart, too tight! if the oem shock spins while im trying to loosen it, is that bad?

i got these tanbe gf210 and where is says 0607 ap1GR is that the rear and ap1GF is the front? because i just installed the front springs and its higher, only when you measure it, you cant really see it, did i do someting wrong thanks
