Well someone either hit or kicked my s2k today.

I have a good sized dent in the hood of my car, and since they didn't leave a note, I have to pay a fvcking $250 comprehensive deductable!?!?

So I plan to refuse to allow then to "fix" the damage and am going to request a new hood. Now that in mind, does anyone know the weight of a Carbon Fiber Hood vs our stock Aluminun one?

Also can you paint Carbon Fiber? While I would like the weight savings, I don't need the flashy CF hood, and if I buy one I would have a body shop paint it Silver to match the rest of the car.

i suppose you could paint it but why?? i think carbon fiber hoods look just fine but i don't think the weight difference between the two would be that big..i mean our stock hood is already quite light..

Not much of a weight difference. It can be painted by why would you? CF is so cool looking! Hard to relate to vandalism....I live in God's country, where people just stop and stare! I could suggest you moving from Calif. (as I did) but that might make the S2K common here. Don't want to do that! Been two months and haven't seen another yet!

krazik-

Carbon fiber hoods, when properly designed and manufactured, can weigh substantially less than the stock hood.

Case in point- my Electra carbon fiber hood for my GT-R weighs about 5 lbs, and the stock hood (also aluminum) weighs over 25lbs. It's a dual layer laminate that is fairly stiff compared to some of the others available on the market.

And yes, you can paint carbon fiber. At least, they paint carbon fiber in F1 and CART... I would add some flex agent into the paint.

Hope that helps.

No problem painting it. I use it for model airplanes all the time, and I always paint it.

If you're anal about the wieght, however, paint will add more!
