ap2 does not drop out of vtec when shifting at redline.

 

are you saying you're VTECing in 5th and 6th??? I hope this is not on public roads tsk tsk tsk.... and I feel the most VTEC pop in 2nd and 3rd gear....and 1st definitely drops you out of VTEC in AP2's, I think it was around 5300 RPM or so on the 1-2 shift at redline.

 

i remember watching a vid from pilotKD or something like that. he had a vid of him shifting through the first 4 or 5 gears and he never went out of vtec, i have not been able to manage that on public roads. it might have happened, but not when i was paying attention. impressive, i'm sure he will chime in tomorrow.

 

I don't know how easy/difficult it is with the AP1, but my 04 AP2 is really simple (remember that this version has the F20C engine).

Maybe I have practice in shifting with my old Type R, but I never drop out of VTEC - if I am trying! In fact I think it is easier to stay in VTEC than my old CTR was.

And 0-60 or 0-100 is completed in second gear. It goes to about 107 kms an hour, which is approx. 66 mph.

you can take third gear up to around 90 mph - so dropping into 4th is even safer.

and the only reason you feel less of a 'kick' in the later gears is because
higher gears are simply larger in diameter and it takes more force to
move them quickly. the illusion of torque decreasing in higher gears is
present in all cars - and since we have the same torque specs as a
pissed off lawnmower, its pretty easy to lose that feeling

 

The original post refers to a 2005 model. I believe it is same as MY2004, and so 3rd gear doesn't go to 90 mph. I think it goes up to 78 mph. 4th gear VTECs at 72 mph and it goes up to 96 mph. To accelerate on the road, I would shift down to 3rd if going at 50-60+, and to 4th instead if 65-75+.
5th gear range in VTEC is 90-120, and 6th enters VTEC at about 110.
